Kihon in Japanese – 11/11/08 – Tuesday Karate class

This was one of my favorite classes that I have had in a long time.

Kihon in Japanese…

Sensei Noia had us do a quick warm up and then we got right into kihon.  The difference in this class was Sensei called out all of the moves in Japanese.  He has done this before but it seemed different this time.  Not only did we do our movements as a group, he also tested each and every one of us on a different move in Japanese.  For example, my test was zenkutsu dachi with gedan barai or front stance with downward block.

Free sparring…

We finished up class with some free sparring.  I am trying to use what Sensei Noia told me the other night. Instead of chasing down my opponents, who many are much faster then me, I am waiting for them to come to me and then putting the pressure on them when they get too close.  It seems to be working better and at least I am not getting scored on as much.
