Monday Karate workout – 12/10/07 – New workout begins!

Today was the official start of my new training routine to help me improve for my next examination.

Over the next three months, my main focus is going to be on all stances, all kicks and making my movements more fluid.

Tonight was a break-in workout. I held my front stance, each leg, for 60 seconds. Next came horse stance for 30 seconds and back stance for 30 seconds each leg. I hope to increase the time by 5 seconds until I can reach 5 minutes in each stance.

I did some simple standing side leg raises that my friend Robert suggested I try. Standing upright, with one hand on the wall, I did 20 slow motion legs raises with each leg. The idea is not so much to stretch my hips but instead, my them and the other supporting muscles stronger.

I finished up with 20 stationary roundhouse kicks for each leg. Oddly enough, those kicks felt higher than usual.

It was a very short workout but I hope to ramp things up over the next few weeks.
