Friday Karate class.
Good class.
We spent a lot of time working on sparring drills. It felt good to do some sparring for a change since it has been a long time since I have done any sparring work. We did something different, where we spent time doing slow motion moves to get our timing with our opponent right. It was really different and made me focus more on my technical skills instead of speed and power. My roundhouse kick is finally getting better, at least with the right leg. I was able to hit my wife in the shoulder blade a couple time with my right leg and always above belt with my left leg.

We spent a lot of time working on bascis. I was trying to pay special attention to my hips and was trying to make the punches come from them. Our focus was mostly on the legs and striking with our shins instead of using our punches.

Karate class:
Class was tough today.
We did a lot of basics with little to no rest. Many of the more advanced basics such as inward block, elbow strike, backfist. Then we did some kick work. Front snap kick, side thrust kick, back kick, roundhouse kick and front snap kick all while keeping the kicking leg off the ground. Balancing for those moves it really hard but I didn’t do too bad tonight.
We then finished up with kata.
My foot feels like someone dropped a car on it. It is really sore today but it was fine in class.
