Five parts of the moving forward front punch.
My Sensei often told me that there are five moves to the moving forward front punch and only two of them are related to the upper body.
First is the punch, next is the elbow strike, then comes the shin clash, next is driving from the back leg (or guarded back leg) and then finally the knee sweep. The knee sweep is where you have your front foot outside the opponents front foot and you use your knee as a lever to twist their leg and take them down.
1: Guarded back leg
2: Knee sweep
3: Shin clash
4: Punch
5: Elbow strike

Weights:
15 minutes (superset)
Leg press toe raise - 12 x 360 x 5
Dumbbell wrist curl – 12 x 20 x 5
Crunch – 10 x 5
Stiffleg dumbbell deadlift – 10 x 45 x 5
No Karate class today. My right hip is very sore, maybe from the rain and humid weather here, and my wife is not feeling well so we did not make class today.
Wednesday weight workout.
Good workout tonight.
The gym was very warm and it felt good to workout in the higher temperature. I had to be near 80 degrees but there was a lot of air movement. The EDT workout is hard but feels good. Racing the clock really helps me keep my mind off the pain from the exercises.
15 minutes – superset:
Dumbbell curl – 14 x 30 x 5
Dumbbell triceps extension – 14 x 50 x 5
15 minutes – superset:
Side dumbbell raise – 13 x 15 x 5
Dumbbell shrug – 13 x 60 x 5
I need to increase the weight next time since I did more than 12 sets.
Tuesday Karate class.
Good class.
We spent a little time warming up and then split up in to testing and done testing groups.
We spent a good amount of time working on basic stance training. Now that most of the people that still need to test are all 5th kyu or above, the examiners are looking more closely at our stances and the way we move from stance to stance. They are going to look more at our feet when we move to make sure our heals do not pop up and are going to pay much less attention to the way we move our upper bodies and throw blocks or punches.
We also worked on kata. My kata felt pretty good but my left foot is still not back to normal and is still sore. I was able to perform a decent jump but I am still holding back until my test for now.
Saturday Karate class.
Class was good and we spent most of it working on some basics and kata. We started out doing all katas from Heian Shodan to what we knew and it really warmed me up.
Our Sensei broke the poeple who needed to test in to a seperate group to help us prepare. It was good to work on our kata we did some new things. We did our kata in reverse and also mirror image. It was really hard to do them but interesting.
